Workshops to refine scenarios for future

The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and ITD will present a second round of workshops for the Communities in Motion project to help refine the growth and transportation scenarios that emerged from the first round of workshops held in November 2004.

Five workshops are scheduled:

Wednesday, February 2

Hispanic Cultural Center of Idaho
315 Stampede Drive, Nampa
9 a.m.–noon and 6–9 p.m.

Thursday, February 3

Idaho Historical Museum
610 N. Julia Davis Drive, Boise
9 a.m.–noon, 1:30–4:30 and 6–9 p.m.

Nearly 500 people attended a workshop in November. Using maps and chipsets, a majority of participants showed their support for:

  • Light rail transit between Caldwell/Nampa and Boise
  • Preservation of the floodplains and the Birds of Prey area
  • Regional growth that develops differently than it is now – most people wanted mid range growth with development of main streets, downtowns and compact neighborhoods and a reduction in large lot residential development

Communities in Motion is a six-county, 20+ year plan that will address issues on the regional transportation system, evaluate the needs for future corridors, and address the effects of growth on transportation. Communities in Motion involves Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore, Gem and Payette counties.

The Ada County work is being coordinated with the “Blueprint for Good Growth” project in Ada County and results will be shared between the two planning efforts.
