ITD riders straddle engines for work commute

ITD employees in Coeur d’Alene and Boise took advantage of national Ride Your Bike to Work Day to exercise their Hogs, Hondas, Suzukis and other motorcycles Wednesday.

At Headquarters, more than a dozen riders lined their motorcycles in a specially designated parking area early in the morning and then reassembled for a rumble around the main building at noon.

A similar number of riders contrated at a central spot at the District 1 office in Coeur d’Alene.

The national event is held on the third Wednesday in July to draw attention to the use of motorcycles as alternative transportation. Benefits of riding motorcycles to work often are overlooked – literally and figuratively – by other motorists. Motorcycles:

  • Consume less fuel
  • Require less space for parking
  • Take up less space on highways
  • Have less impact than cars on roadway surfaces, and
  • Often provide faster commutes

Coeur d’Alene participants included:

  • Jim Staab, Supply
  • Jeff Drager, Materials
  • Roy Clark, Traffic
  • Mike Allen, Vegetation
  • Keith viebrock, Vegetation
  • Jim Stam, Special Crew
  • Dave Palmer, Maintenance
  • John Waisanen, Maintenance
  • Larry Flanagan, Shop
  • Greg Munden, Maintenance
  • John Holm, Bridge
  • Gary Rowles, ShopDennis Dingman, Shop
