If you've got 'ugly' we'd like to see it

Indeed, there is a day set aside to celebrate almost anything.

Next week marks an annual event that, in all dignity and reverence, pays homage to an American icon – pickup trucks. Thursday, July 20, is designated as National Ugly Truck Day.

Although ITD is not officially participating the celebration of this fabled mode of transportation, we are interested in what kinds of less-than-pristine vehicles serve our employees. So here’s the challenge:

Please send us a photograph (digital or color print) of your ugly pickup. The more warts, the better. The uglier the paint job, the better. Fenders held on by bailing wire, garden twine or duct tape? We’d love to see them and share them. Address the e-mail photo to: Mel Coulter or send them to the Public Affairs Office at Headquarters.

Only a few stipulations are in order:

The ugly truck must be in running condition and licensed in Idaho. It also must be owned by an ITD employee or immediate family member. (Sorry, this is not a place to feature your Datsun B-210 or Mercury Pacer; it must be a pickup truck.)

When sending photographs, please provide a description that includes: make and model, year manufactured, number of years you’ve owned it, and (if possible) an instance of when and how it pulled through a tough spot.

We will try to share as many of the photographs as possible. This is not a contest! Just a serious way to recognize those unheralded vehicles that we know and love.
