Western Idaho Fair: All it's cracked up to be

A demonstration of traffic safety at the Western Idaho State Fair in Boise broke eggs faster than hens could lay them.

Representatives from ITD’s Office of Highway Operations and Safety and the Idaho Division of the Federal Highway Administration placed raw eggs in a toy car then sent them hurtling to their untimely end. The cracked eggs were intended to show the effects of automobile occupants involved in a crash while not wearing seat belts.

Approximately 60 dozen eggs were sacrificed to drive the safety message home.

Information also was presented on booster and child safety seats, identification kits, impaired and aggressive driving and visibility.

ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles also cooperated in staffing the booth and provided information about vehicle registrations , licensing and titling and drivers licenses.

Volunteers worked through 10 shifts and logged 65 hours at the fair, which began Aug. 17 and continued through Aug. 26. Staffing included Brent Inghram, Ping Yerby, Ed Johnson, Reid Dudley, Lance Johnson, Frank Tooke, Glynn Falgout, Ed Miltner and Mike Caliendo.
