The Idaho Transportation Board appointed Carl Root, University of Idaho Director of Parking and Transportation Services, as the new District 2 Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC) representative. The board received the recommendation from the Public Transportation Advisory Council after a thorough vetting process that included the District Coordination Council as well as the Local Mobility Networks. Previous positions with the University of Washington and Western Washington University give Root more than 20 years of experience in public transportation and direct involvement in planning, operation and administration of public transportation – making him a great fit for the PTAC. “We are very excited to have Carl filling the seat vacated by Jan Vassar due to her appointment to the ITD Board. His experience and extensive understanding of pubic transportation is a perfect fit for the PTAC. He will undoubtedly provide great leadership and representation for District 2 as we work to continue to improve coordination and efficiencies in transportation options across Idaho,” said Joe Herring, PTAC Chair. Over the last two years, Root has been engaged in the District 2 I-way process that includes Latah, Clearwater, Lewis, Nez Perce and Idaho counties. In his position at the University of Idaho, he initiated and is currently leading a transportation plan update process on campus. He is an ex-officio member of the Moscow Transportation Commission and works closely with public transportation in Moscow and Latah County. “I fully understand the role of the PTAC is to work effectively and in concert with all who are impacted by public transportation. My experience with managing transportation programs in higher education requires careful listening and understanding of all sides of an issue. I look forward to serving on the PTAC and representing interests of the entire district,” said Root. Published 3-19-2010 |
