Vassar appointed to 6-year board term:
Blick named vice-chairman for 2010

The Idaho Senate this week unanimously approved the appointment of Jan Vassar to the Idaho Transportation Board to a full six-year term that will expire in 2016. She was selected to fill the remainder of Bruce Sweeney’s term on the board after he passed away of cancer in August. The term formally expired Jan. 31.

Two projects approved for stimulus funding
ITD secured nearly $155,000 in training funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) 2009 which designated $20 million nationally for surface transportation and technology training. The Idaho Transportation Board, at its business meeting in Boise last week (Feb. 17, 18), approved funding two projects through the federal ARRA funds.

Accolades

Employees receive maintenance, safety honors
Citing outstanding contributions to Idaho’s transportation system, the Idaho Highway Users Inc. honored ITD employees George Shutes and Tony Warth with Motorvator Awards this week. The awards were presented during the organization’s annual luncheon for state legislators Wednesday in Boise.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter provided members of the Idaho Legislature this week with a breakdown of the input he received from Idaho citizens who went online to offer their advice on how to make State government more efficient and effective.

ITD golf league organizes in Treasure Valley
The ITD Twilight Golf League Committee is organizing for the 2010 season. The league will play at Shadow Valley again (along Idaho 55) on Mondays. We are anticipating a shotgun start between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. A nominal entry fee of about $40 is required to cover league expenses and the last night of golf.

DOTs relying more on social media
Results of a survey survey of 32 state DOTs finds that 26 states (or 81 percent) use Twitter to communicate with travelers when major traffic incidents or severe weather such as snow storms, hurricanes and tornadoes force road closures or detours.

Division of Motor Vehicles representatives joined other vendors at the state Capitol Wednesday for "Buy Idaho Day." The special day is set aside during each Legislative session as a visual forum for Idaho products and services

Interagency Working group presents to legislators
Marilyn Sword, Interagency Working Group (IWG) Committee Chair, reported the progress of the IWG (Interagency Working Group) and Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC) to the Senate and House Transportation Committees on Feb. 16. She provided an update for legislators on activities that have taken place to improve mobility in Idaho the past year.
