The Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee Wednesday
reconsidered the Connecting Idaho bonding program,
voted to redirect a portion of the project funding
and allow the Idaho Transportation Board greater flexibility
in directing the program.

Board considers report on public transportation
Public
Transportation Administrator Larry Falkner and Laurie
Hussey from Cambridge Systematics provided a report
to the Idaho Transportation Board March 15 that
clarifies the state’s role in public transit.
The report sets the framework for planning and implementation
by ITD and Idaho’s transportation service
providers.

festival features ultralights, virtual safari
A virtual safari, handmade flying contraptions and
stories of Canada geese were among the highlights
of the 14th annual Idaho Aviation Festival in Boise
(March 10-12). The festival attracted an estimated
800 people. Bill Lishman, noted filmmaker, pilot
and author, returned to the festival in an encore

schedules statewide meetings to discuss report
The products of nearly two years of intensive study
on transportation funding options for Idaho will
presented during a series of six statewide meetings,
beginning in April. An independent group of policymakers,
transportation officials and Idaho citizens held
workshops throughout the state to identify possible
funding sources to address the state’s anticipated
surface construction needs.

bridge/culvert project honored for engineering
The American Consultant Engineering Companies presented
its 2005 ACEC of Idaho Engineering Excellence Award
to GeoEngineers, Inc. for ITD’s project in
District 6 (Fremont County). Nester Fernandez accepted
the oak plaque on behalf of the district staff.

Toastmasters
club to form at Headquarters April 14
Toastmasters, an international organization committed
to empowering individuals to speak effectively in
public, will form a new club for ITD employees and
other individuals in Boise. An organizational meeting
for anyone interested in improving their public
speaking skills is planned for Friday, April 14
at noon in the Headquarters auditorium.

Lowe
to step down as head of DMV
Pam Lowe, Administrator of the ITD’s Division
of Motor Vehicles since August 2004, announced this
week she is leaving the position to join her husband
who accepted a new job in Italy... The gregarious
Lowe brought operational efficiencies, a vision
for technology and a trademark laugh to her position.
