Independence
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men
are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator

Celebrate
independence daily
U.S. Sen. Larry Craig
...It is appropriate that we celebrate Independence Day
each year by displaying the flag, honoring veterans at
parades, and enjoying, with barbecues, beverages and fireworks,
all the bounty our country has to offer. However, celebrating
one day out of the year, or even one day out of the month
is not enough to redeem the blood of patriots.

Board
considers budget report
ITD
budget staff provided an overview of the department’s
revenue trends as part of a workshop for Transportation
Board members in Idaho Falls last week. The workshop,
which preceded the board’s monthly business meeting,
provided a background for discussions and directions for
the draft FY08 budget.

Jerri Hunter appointed to national committee
ITD’s Jerri Hunter recently was appointed to the
International Registration Plan (IRP) Inc. Dispute Resolution
Committee as the new Region IV committee member. IRP members
include the 48 contiguous U.S. states, the District of
Columbia and 10 Canadian provinces. She is one of nine
voting members on the national committee

ITD
ties for third in alternative commute competition
ITD employees in
Boise continue to put into motion their commitment to
alternative transportation. According to Ada County
Highway District’s Commuteride, 64 ITD employees
participated in the annual May in Motion alternative
commuting promotion. Several other Treasure Valley organizations
substantially increased their levels of participation
and edged ITD out of first place in its division.

New
auto salvage law goes into effect
Idaho's salvage vehicle laws will change on July 1 by
removing age and value exemptions for older salvage vehicles
and requiring all vehicles deemed a total loss by an owner
or insurance company to be reported and issued a salvage
certificate. Any car or truck that has been declared a
total loss and for which a title is being applied for
on or after July 1 will receive a branded title identifying
the vehicle as repaired or reconstructed regardless of
loss date.

'Move
over' law enforced starting Saturday (July 1)
For two consecutive
years, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
Fund has studied statistics that show officers are just
as or more likely to be killed in traffic accidents as
gunfire. A new law takes effect in Idaho this weekend
that will require the public to be more vigilant when
they're passing officers and emergency responders on the
highway.

Summer
thunderstorms carry inherent risks
In Gulf Coast and southern states the arrival of June
marks the beginning of hurricane season. Threats from
a different kind of storm provide an annual threat in
Idaho – thunderstorms and lightning. Recognizing
the potential danger and preparing in advance can avoid
injuries and possible death, according to the Ada City-County
Emergency Management (ACCEM) office.
