Idaho scenic routes named All American Roads
The International Selkirk
Loop, that incorporates two Idaho scenic byways
and scenic routes in Washington and British Columbia,
received the nation’s most prestigious designation,
that of All American Road because of their unique
characteristics and intrinsic beauty.

system will keep motorists informed
of travel conditions
Safe
travel on Idaho’s roadways means
being prepared, especially during winter
months, when weather is the primary
force affecting driving conditions.
This winter season, motorists will have
a new tool at their disposal for safe
travels. Idaho’s 511 traveler
information service will launch in November,
using state-of-the-art technology to
provide road and weather information
by phone and Internet.

Program
will inform parents of teen driving violations
Parents
of teen drivers could find a note in their mailbox
from a law enforcement officer. Officers will use
a parent notification pamphlet to let parents know
when and where a teen in the household has been stopped
for traffic violations.The parent notification effort
is part of “Idaho Teen Driver Safety Awareness
Week,” designated by Gov. Dirk Kempthorne.

Payette
inmates, forest group honored for highway
cleanups
When Payette County
inmates hit the road, it usually results
in a clean getaway – the path they
leave behind is free of trash and creates
a welcome greeting to motorists entering
three southwest Idaho communities. For their
work, the Payette County Sheriff’s
inmate labor program was honored as one
of two outstanding District 3 participants
in the Idaho Transportation Department’s
Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program this week.

Fleet
administrators schedule conference in Coeur
d'Alene
The
Idaho Transportation Department will serve
as host next week of the National Conference
of State Fleet Administrators (NCSFA) annual
meeting at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.
ITD’s Alison Lantz, a member at large
of the national organization, is chairman
of the conference and trade show.

presents 'Buckle Up' message in parade entry
Mountain Home
residents who turned out for one of the
state’s largest parades recently couldn’t
miss the presence of the Idaho Transportation
Department. ITD was represented by a fluorescent-yellow
six-wheel dump truck equipped with magnesium
chloride tank and 12-foot plow, and a truck
towing a variable message sign that reminded
all who watched to “Buckle Up.”

Hunters
asked to help prevent spread of weeds
Fall
has arrived and with it the opening of hunting
seasons in Idaho.State noxious weed officials
ask hunters to be especially careful not
to unknowingly spread noxious weeds to even
more areas of the Idaho backcountry.

USDOT
provides funds for Atlanta road repairs
The
U.S. Department of Transportation announced
recently the award of $321,590 to ITD to
help offset reconstruction costs of a rural
road near Atlanta that was washed out in
2004. The money is part of $80 million in
emergency relief funds the DOT provided
for 18 states and U.S. territories to repair
roads and bridged damaged by floods, storm
or other catastrophic events.

Idaho photo takes prominent place in AASHTO
calendar
ITD’s
contributions to a calendar produced this
month by the American Association of State
Highway and Transportation Officials, found
prominent places. A photo showing a mock
burial of the last stop signal on Interstate
90 between Seattle and Boston is the first
one displayed in the calendar, associated
with January 2006. A second photo shows
District 3’s Carl Main inspecting
rebar along Interstate 184 in Boise. It
is the featured photo for April.
