Forum begins search for options
Faced with a tripling in mileage to be traveled within the state's boundaries by the year 2020, 40 Idahoans met in Boise Monday to launch a state Forum on Transportation Investment (FTI). The panel, which is to meet several times over the next year at locations across the state, will explore the state's transportation needs, investments required to meet them, and funding options.

Board to consider GARVEE bonds as funding tool
The Idaho Transportation Board will assemble for a one-day workshop Thursday, concentrating most of its discussion on Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds as a possible tool to fund construction projects. The board will study GARVEE bonding and consider whether the concept could be applied in Idaho.

New ITD web site nearly ready for unveiling
The ITD web site will soon take on a new look, reflecting a new era in transportation services from the department. The design vastly changes the look and feel of ITD’s web presence, showcasing transportation successes and safety campaigns. “Along with illustrating how much is happening at ITD, the site is easy to navigate and intuitive for visitors,” said Jeff Stratten, ITD Public Information Officer.

Employees to be honored for service milestones
Work stations at Headquarters will thin out briefly Friday ( Oct. 8) when employees assemble for the semiannual ITD Service Awards presentation in the auditorium. ITD administrators, Director Dave Ekern and board member John McHugh of District 1 will congratulate more than 50 individuals who have reached employment milestones at the department.

ITD begins conversion to biodiesel fuel
ITD recognizes these economic and environmental benefits of biodiesel fuel and recently converted all of its diesel-fueled vehicle stations in the Treasure Valley to B20 Biodiesel – a blend of 20 percent bio-fuel and 80 percent petroleum diesel. The first 6,000 gallons of the new product were delivered to District 3’s Chinden Boulevard fueling station Sept. 15.

Administrative assistants learn to ride waves of change
With changes constantly occurring in the transportation arena, “Riding the Waves of Change” was an appropriate theme for this year’s Administrative Workshop, held Sept. 22-23 in Boise. Throughout the event, speakers addressed the changing world of ITD and how to adapt to it.

Maintenance Fair helps winter preparation
ITD maintenance employees in eastern Idaho received hands-on training Sept. 16 when District 6 served as host for the third annual Maintenance Fair. Approximately 100 employees from districts 5 and 6 attended the one-day event. After a brief orientation at the beginning of the day, employees were divided into three groups that rotated through three morning sessions. Those groups also rotated through a series of three new afternoon sessions.

Employees urged to join 'Drive Safely' week
For the millions of commuters, driving to work isn’t as easy or as safe as it used to be. Over the past 20 years, highway travel has increased by 80 percent and the number of drivers has increased by 30 percent, yet little has been done to modify our road systems to accommodate all of these drivers. This makes for crowded roads and frustrated motorists.

National MOVE magazine reports on Wrigley's solution
Callie Wrigley, a technical records specialist at ITD, was honored earlier this year for creating a streamlined process to submit organ donor forms to the Intermountain Donor Services in Salt Lake City. Now those efforts are known throughout the country. MOVE (Motor Vehicle and Law Enforcement) Magazine reported on Wrigley’s creative approach to expediting organ donations – thereby saving lives – in its fall edition.
