Transportation board hears report on driver education
The Idaho Transportation Board took advantage of a day-long workshop before its monthly meeting last week to become better acquainted with a number of the department’s current projects. Meeting Thursday (Oct. 7) at Headquarters board members learned about the driver education program, administered by the Department of Education.

Firefighters use ITD houses for training
The Idaho Falls Fire Department capitalized on ITD's need to remove four homes for a new highway interchange, and in the process, gave firefighters valuable experience in fighting structure fires. ITD purchased the four homes as part of the Sunnyside Interchange project.

Symposium to help shape future of airstrips
Idaho’s airstrips have long provided access to recreational opportunities, contributed to community development, supported fire and emergency operations, aided in natural resource management and more. The Recreational Airstrip Symposium is a series of three workshops that will gather transportation officials, pilots, forest managers, outfitters and other stakeholders to help shape the future of how the airstrips are used, managed, maintained and improved.

Financial software system passes major milestone
A core team charged with directing ITD’s transition to a new financial management system celebrated the conclusion of the first major phase last week and took a collective breath before launching into the next phase. Approximately one-third of the way through the 15-month process, the transition team concentrated in the “envision” phase on identifying gaps between present ITD processes and capabilities of the new Advantage 3 package.

Commercial trucking web site honored
An Idaho web site that provides information for commercial truck drivers and fleet managers has been recognized nationally as part of the 2004 Digital Government Achievement Awards program. The honors were announced recently by the Center for Digital Government.
