Board forwards $998 million Connecting Idaho plan
The Idaho Transportation Board last week approved a plan to invest $998 million to improve seven Connecting Idaho highway corridors. The Idaho Legislature authorized the transportation board to finance the Connecting Idaho highway improvements by borrowing against future federal funds allocated to the state. In May, Idaho sold $200 million in bonds to finance the first phase.

Board reviews FIT public input
The Idaho Transportation Board voted Wednesday to submit a request to the Governor’s office asking approval to proceed with a request of $998.3 million to the 2007 Legislature for the Connecting Idaho Program. The action came following an extensive workshop on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at Headquarters in Boise

Mainframe migration goes 'exceedingly well'
A project to move major applications and data from ITD’s mainframe computer to a new place on the State Controller’s Office mainframe in downtown Boise proceeded with precision Oct. 14, said project manager Don Bernaiche. The migration was completed during a four-hour period on Saturday morning and involved about 15 ITD employees and representatives from several other state agencies.

Highway Operations targets four areas of concern
The four primary contributors to injuries and deaths on Idaho highways are targets of a number of initiatives launched by or involving ITD’s Office of Highway Operations and Safety. “The safety of travelers, using all modes of transportation, on Idaho’s highways is a concern shared by numerous state organizations and agencies,” said Brent Jennings of OHOS.

Employees honored for years of service, retirements
The heartbeat of Idaho's transportation system took center stage last week during the regular monthly business meeting of the Idaho Transportation Board. Board members and department administrators extended their appreciation and acknowledgment to 48 employees who reached career milestones and five others who formally re tiered during the first half of 2006.

Governor, ITD focus on cyber security
“Phishing” and “Pharming” aren’t simple Idaho activities anymore; they are real Internet threats designed to capture personal information. With the increasing use of the Internet by Idaho children and continuing growth of online identity theft and financial fraud, Gov. Jim Risch is focusing attention on cyber security issues by declaring October as Cyber Security Awareness Month in Idaho.

Flu shots, screenings planned this fall
The ITD Wellness Program has arranged for several health-related services to be delivered to employees this fall, some of which bear no direct cost. Headquarters employees should receive information later this month about the annual flu shot clinic scheduled for Nov. 14. Those who complete and return a registration form will be assigned an appointment time for a flu shot.

A basket case: Raffle benefits Charitable Giving Campaign
A raffle of unique theme baskets at ITD Headquarters recently generated $2,000 to support the state of Idaho’s annual Charitable Giving Campaign that benefits non-profit organizations through United Way. Organized by Human Resources, the raffle included 18 baskets assembled by ITD sections, divisions and individuals.
