Board
to consider report on citizens' satisfaction
What
do Idaho citizens think of their transportation
system, its funding level and the efforts to build
and maintain it? Answers will be revealed and discussed
next week when the Idaho Transportation Board considers
results from a recent survey funded by the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA). The board will review
survey findings Wednesday and Thursday at its monthly
business meeting in the Auditorium at Headquarters.

Falls celebrates opening of Sunnyside
Flags
that lined the bridge stood at attention .Veterans,
representing multiple conflicts and military branches,
stood behind the platform. And community leaders,
dressed in their warmest winter parkas listened
attentively. With a steady wind at his back, and
a bright future for Idaho Falls in front of him,
Idaho Transportation Board vice president Jack Combo
reminded a supportive crowd the benefits a new southern
access to the city will provide.

Aging,
depleted workforce creates challenges
An aging workforce streaming
toward retirement and leaving behind critical jobs
that will need hard-to-find replacement workers has
ITD Human Resources Manager Mary Harker seeking some
creative solutions. Harker is not alone as ITD and
departments of transportation throughout the country
gird themselves for a looming workforce shakeup and
start reconsidering how they will do business in the
21st century.

named head of Division of Planning and Programming
ITD
Interim Director Dwight Bower last weeknamed Matt
Moore Administrator of the Division of Planning and
Programming. He succeeds Charles Rountree who retired
earlier this year. Moore has served for nearly two
years as the transportation department’s Research
Manager.

Insurance
premiums take one-month break
Idaho
employees covered by state’s Blue Cross health
insurance plans will receive a break from automatic
payroll premium deductions this month because of a
compensation plan passed by the Idaho Legislature
and signed by the governor earlier this year. That
plan directed the Department of Administration to
pay one month of group
health insurance premiums.

A
brief halftime ceremony bridged two halves
of basketball, two neighboring communities
and two athletic rivals in Nampa recently.
It also provided a showcase for two of
Idaho’s newest collegiate license
plates available as part of the special
license plates program administered by
ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles.

Stress
can increase vulnerability to flu
Its appearance
every fall is as regular as falling leaves,
pumpkins and holiday shopping. Flu season
already is upon us, and this year, it’s
noting to sneeze at, according to experts.
The incidence of Influenza is epidemic this
year as the contagious bug makes its way
across the country, spreading through offices,
schools, daycare centers, malls and other
public places. Its rapid spread in the fall
and winter is attributed, in large part,
to weather conditions that keep us indoors
so much of the time.
