Legislative
meetings lead to positive dialogue
A
delegation led by board chairman Darrell
Manning and ITD Director Pam Lowe
met with legislators the past two
weeks to outline the department’s
priorities heading into the 2008 Legislative
session. The series included stops
in all six districts and focused on
the initial draft of ITD’s efficiency
report, a presentation on revenue
needs and a brief summary of the GARVEE
Program.

Report
scheduled on major STIP improvements
Painstaking
efforts by staff in the Division of Planning
and Programming have resulted in a more
user-friendly version of the department’s
Statewide Transportation Improvement Program
document. The STIP is a detailed schedule
and report on construction priorities that
are programmed for the next five years and
those being considered for the sixth year.

Meridian overpass to reduce emergency response
time
For
Sgt. Matt Parsons of the Meridian Police
Department, last week’s opening of
the Locust Grove Road Overpass spanning
Interstate 84 represents less time spent
en route to an emergency. And more time
helping people in need.

Nez Perce, Coeur d'Alene sign tribal
tax agreements
Governor
C.L. "Butch" Otter and officials from
the Nez Perce and Kootenai tribes reached agreements
last week for the collection and allocation of motor
fuel taxes on their respective tribal lands, joining
the Coeur d'Alene and Shoshone-Bannock tribes in
resolving the issue.

Conference room booking available through Outlook
We
have a new and easier way to book conference rooms
for meetings that require equipment setup. The new
method is easy to learn, and only requires two clicks
of the mouse. Effective immediately, whenever employees
book any meeting (at Headquarters) that requires IT
to set up any equipment just book the meeting in Outlook
as you would any regular meeting.

to new forms of “phishing” that can

international organization named the Communities in
Motion: Regional Long-Range Transportation Plan 2030
its project of the year merit award winner. The announcement
came in mid-November at the International Association
for Public Participation (IAP2) annual meeting.

HRS to hold meetings
for supervisors and managers
regarding updated State of Idaho Policies and Idaho
Transportation Department Procedures
Human
Resource Services will be meeting with ITD Supervisors
and Managers in December to provide an overview of all
statewide policies that have been implemented and are
now being formalized into the ITD policy manual. The implementation
date for all revised ITD policies is December 16, 2007.

Vehicles
They would have known better
in Idaho
GMAC,
in a report summarized by CNN last week, indicated that
36 million drivers, or roughly the population of California,
would have failed their driver’s test if they had
to take it today. Fifty-five percent of the respondents
didn’t know how many feet before making a left or
right turn to activate their turn signals (no mention
was made about how many drivers know what turn signals
are used for);
