Racing for the checkered flag

Please join your co-workers in wishing Chief Engineer Jim Ross the best as he rounds the final lap before retirement. A farewell is planned Thursday (Dec. 16) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Headquarters.

A career of building relationships and highways
Jim Ross has come a long way since learning to use a slide rule in the eighth grade to calculate the speed of cars racing past the school. On the other hand, he hasn’t gone far at all. And that’s just fine with the retiring Idaho Transportation Department’s chief engineer.

Letterhead, business cards assume new look
Evolution to new e-mail addresses and a plan to standardize the appearance of some ITD printed material prompted the design of new letterhead and business cards that will go into effect Jan. 1. The new year will bring print-on-demand letterhead that provides users with flexibility in ordering and eliminates the need to stock large quantities.

Campaign focuses on impaired drivers
This holiday season, Idaho law enforcement officers and safety officials are reminding people to designate a sober driver before each party or event involving alcohol. Increased patrols will begin mid-December and continue through New Year’s Day.

Board to consider Idaho 44/16 proposal
The Idaho Transportation Board Wednesday will consider a request from District 3 staff to add a project in FY05 to the State Highway Development Program. The board will meet in the auditorium at ITD Headquarters beginning at 2:30 p.m. The meeting will run through the afternoon.

Relief from mega-sized drinks, long travel
Those who believe no road trip is complete without a mega-sized beverage but don’t have a mega-sized bladder to match will find comfort with the opening of a new rest area near Bliss. Refrains of “hold on” are no longer necessary for those traveling between Wendell and Glenns Ferry.
