Pam Lowe named new ITD director

The Idaho Transportation Board Thursday named Pamela Lowe the department's director. She has served as deputy director since Sept. 7. Lowe will succeed Dwight Bower, who has been acting director since September. He will conclude his second tenure at ITD on Jan. 12. Lowe will assume her new position Jan. 16.

Simmons named acting Aeronautics administrator

Susan Simmons, Administrator of the Division of Administration, will assume administrative responsibilities for the Division of Aeronautics while a search is under way to replace Bob Martin who retired earlier this month.ITD's Acting Director Dwight Bower announced the selection of Simmons Tuesday.

Board members meet with ACHD commissioners
The Idaho Transportation Board and commissioners from the Ada County Highway District agreed this week that good communications is an important part of their collaborative efforts to meet the transportation needs of the Boise Area. Representatives from both government agencies identified the need to work closely together, especially in addressing continued growth of Idaho’s largest metropolitan area

Safe Routes to School to offer project grants
Projects to make routes safer for children who walk and bicycle to school are available through (ITD's new Safe Routes to School program. ITD announced this week that it will begin accepting requests from communities, school districts and other government agencies for funds that will be distributed on a reimbursement basis.

DMV Modernization outlines Phase I projects
Momentum is building for the Division of Motor Vehicles Modernization project as it enters its first full year of a phased implementation in 2007. The goal, over the coming year, explains DMV Modernization Project Administrator Shannon Barnes, is to stabilize critical infrastructures and implement needed stand-alone solutions.

Guide book explains ITD environmental ethics
Solving the “right” problems with everyone involved before a transportation project begins is at the core of ITD’s new Context Sensitive Solutions Guide. The CSS Guide introduces and explains ITD’s environmental ethic as it applies to current and future transportation projects. The document is available on the department’s intranet and public Web site.

Nampa celebrates new Karcher interchange
A steady rain, paused long enough for the new $30 million Karcher Interchange to bask in momentary glory Tuesday. State and local officials joined ITD leaders to place a large overhead sign on the Karcher/ Interstate 84 overpass, formally signifying the end of the project and opening a new door to Nampa. Under construction for 16 months, the interchange provides new options for truck traffic destined for Idaho 55 and for shoppers who want to take advantage of a burgeoning commercial area north of I-84.
