Department encourages employees to follow Facebook, Twitter accounts
In the summer of 2009, the department jumped in to the world of social media, opening Facebook and Twitter accounts. The next step came half a year later, after many of the bugs had been worked out, as the familiar blue icons were added to the ITD homepage to invite the public to follow the department. Since then, the agency has amassed more than 3,150 friends on Facebook and 5,530 followers on Twitter.
Most department employees have their own Facebook and Twitter accounts, so now comes the next step: asking employees to follow ITD.
"This will allow us to expose those followers to all of the essential activities of the department, and in turn, to get that same message across to their friends in the public," said Vince Trimboli, ITD communication manager. "That is our ultimate mission – to present our message of safety, mobility and economic opportunity to the citizens of Idaho. It is another avenue for outreach to the public."
