A new truck lane on the information highway will enable commercial truck drivers easy access to special services provided by the Idaho Transportation Department, its ports of entry, Idaho State Police and the Idaho Tax Commission.

Access Idaho, which provides Internet services for the state, introduced a new web site (http://trucking.idaho.gov/) this week tailored to the unique needs and interests of truck drivers. It went live with a “soft launch” Tuesday night, said Rich Steckler, director of marketing for Access Idaho.

It was based on a similar site in Kansas, but contains a number of improvements, he said.

The new site serves as a “one-stop-shop” where operators of trucking firms can register for permits, complete temporary registrations, file an International Fuel Tax Agreement, check rules and regulations and learn of construction and highway conditions.

Links are provided to Idaho’s six adjoining states – Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada – along with ports of entry, Idaho’s home page and a number of federal agencies.

Steckler said wallet-sized cards will be printed with key web site links and phone numbers to promote the new site.

The trucking industry strongly supported creation of the web site and provided input during the testing phase.
