Relax – dive into the (van)pool

What’s better than a relaxing seat in the pool on a hot summer (or spring) day? How about saving some time and money in the process?

ITD’s District 3 encourages workers to jump in the vanpool, Wednesday (June 9) when Ada County Highway District (ACHD) Commuteride explains its alternative transportation program at an open house. The event will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the district’s large conference room.

Commuteride provides passenger vans to groups of 11-14 commuters who have similar work schedules and transportation needs. The riders share the cost of the vehicle and its operation by paying an equitable monthly fare. Commuteride oversees all maintenance, insurance and operations, which includes tracking monthly payments and van ridership.

“This is an excellent opportunity for some of the employees in the Main Complex to form a vanpool from Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton, and Meridian,” said District 3 Receptionist Maryanne Zimmerman. “We can even check into Mountain Home if there are enough people interested.”

Vanpools are organized by "where you live" and "where you work." They are arranged to pick up participants at convenient gathering places, like Park & Ride lots.

Drivers are members of that particular vanpool. Because there are some duties associated with being the driver, they are exempt from the monthly fare. Individuals who wish to drive or be a back-up driver must go through an application and training process prior to getting behind the wheel of a Commuteride van.

For more information about the vanpool program, call Commuteride at 345-7665 (345-POOL), or visit its web site: http://www.commuteride.com/
