1,841 ITD employees participate in open enrollment

Nearly all of the Idaho Transportation Department employees eligible for health insurance enrolled during the May 3-28 open process, according to Human Resources.

Of the 1,841 who enrolled, 61 percent opted for the Preferred Provider Organization option that offers lower premiums and deductibles to those who remain within a network of providers. Thirty-nine percent of ITD’s participants chose the traditional health insurance plan.

Eighty-six percent (1,587) used the Department of Administration’s online enrollment process, while 14 percent (207 individuals) chose the more conventional “paper” process.

“We had 23 employees throughout the department who did not enroll by the May 28 deadline, and they have been taken care of,” HR said.

“In all, things went pretty well. There is still work to be done, though. Group Insurance and Blue Cross are still receiving and reviewing applications from the agencies.”

Employees should see their welcome letters from Blue Cross in the near future. They are encouraged to check their paycheck stubs this week to ensure that the July premium amounts are correct. Boise-based Blue Cross succeeds Regence BlueShield as the health insurance plan provider for state employees.

Vision Services Plan (VSP), Delta Dental and Business Psychology Associates (mental health) will continue to serve state employees as they have in the past.

VSP uses the BlueShield "XNA" account number for identification. It will begin using the new Blue Cross I.D. number on July 1.
