The Bottom Line

Director for the Day

Kimi Matsuura looked right at home when she took a seat at the ITD director's desk recently.

A senior from Blackfoot, Matsuura was selected for the role by her peers attending the annual Girls State conference in Boise. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, the conference introduces young women to state government. During the week, they introduce, debate and vote on legislation, and are dispatched to state offices and departments to learn how government functions.

One of several Girls State delegates from Blackfoot, Matsuura toured ITD Headquarters, briefly took command of the director's office, learned about Division of Motor Vehicles operations, and visited the Aeronautics Division. The highlight came when she received a personal tour of the state's King Air plane at Aeronautics.

Retirement sendoff planned July 1 for Moe Detmar

The Division of Motor Vehicles invites all ITD employees to join in a festive farewell to DMV Administrator Moe Detmar on Thursday, July 1. The retirement sendoff is planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Headquarters auditorium.

A driving force behind Idaho's DMV the past 27 years, Moe announced his retirement in late April. His last day in the office will be Friday, July 2. He will join wife Mary, who retired in 2003 after a long and distinguished career with ITD, most recently as manager of Budget, Policy and Intergovernmental Relations.

Moe began his career Nov. 17, 1977, and has served as manager the past nine years. Under his direction, the division has made monumental strides in improving customer service, moved to the forefront in providing Idaho citizens with online services, and removed "the stereotyped long lines and bureaucratic red tape," frequently associated with DMVs.

"I leave the division in capable hands," he said in his retirement announcement. "The managers and supervisors carrying out the daily business of motor vehicle administration are exemplary and will continue to provide exceptional service to Idaho citizens..."

Please join ITD July 1 in wishing him well.
