Heather Ogden paves way for Roadeo success;
challenges others to follow in her tracks

Heather Ogden, 23, found herself in a strangely familiar place recently… strange because not many women venture there, and familiar because she was quite confident and comfortable.

The place was in competition with an overwhelmingly male-dominated District 4 truck Roadeo competition where she captured second place. In the process, she left the other 21 male competitors feeling the heat and scratching their heads in amazement. Ogden became the first female in the district's history to place in local competition and qualify for the state finals in an ITD Truck Roadeo.

The hardest part of the competition was the truck inspection, Ogden said, but she was confident when it came to the loader competition. As evidence, Ogden was perfect performance on her second loader run.

How does it feel to represent the few ITD female maintenance workers and to leave the men eating her dust? “It felt good, and I would encourage more of my female co-workers to compete.”

Ogden has been a Transportation Technician with District 4 for three years. When asked if she has been taking some friendly teasing for her win, she responded, “not at all, everyone was really excited for me, and it was congratulations all the way around.”
