Public reviews possible Eagle Road (Idaho 55) solutions

Idaho citizens who live, work, commute and travel on Eagle Road (Idaho 55) had an opportunity to preview some of the improvements being considered for one of the state’s busiest non-interstate highways this week.

A public open house in Boise offered a preliminary look at the Eagle Road Arterial Study. The purpose was to show the management concepts being considered for Eagle Road. Recommended improvements include:

  • Median barriers with breaks
  • Additional traffic signals
  • Sidewalks, bike paths, curb and gutter
  • Landscaping, lighting and other beautification

It was the second public open house for the Eagle Road Arterial Study. Comments received at the October 2003 open houses reflected people’s strong concern for both the highway’s safe and convenient access and its ability to carry high volumes of traffic.

In February, ITD hired three nationally recognized companies to conduct a three-day workshop, to build on the data collected so far and form a list of recommended improvements. The workshop included participation from the cities of Boise, Meridian, and Eagle, Ada County and the Ada County Highway District, the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

ITD will review public input received at this week’s open house and move into the design phase. The study area is from Overland Road to Idaho 44 (State Street), which is nearly seven miles.
