'Riding the Waves of Change' requires agility, patience With changes constantly occurring in the transportation arena, Riding the Waves of Change was an appropriate theme for this years Administrative Workshop, held Sept. 22-23 in Boise. Throughout the event, speakers addressed the changing world of ITD and how to adapt to it. Our department is always going through some type of change, but currently there are large scale transformations that will be affecting everyone on some level particularly in the financial and information services sections, said Tammie Jauregui of ITDs Human Resources Services and workshop chairperson. What we hope people took away is that change occurs whether we like it or not. It is how we choose to deal with it that determines how successful it will be; each of us is accountable for that success. Attending the Administrative Workshop for a fifth time, Gina Hall from District 5 knows the value of seeing counterparts, if only once a year, and getting new information and insights from speakers. After listening to keynote speaker Kandy Weaver, a human
resource consultant, Hall acknowledged the power that a change in her
own attitude could make. I can make an attitude change in myself, so that it carries over to others. To ease the transition with all the changes coming, she said. Cathy Koon of District 6 admitted that the workshop offered more inspiration than she had expected. Kandy (Weaver) had some good reminders about how to deal with changes in an organization, Koon said. She made me stop and think about how I deal with changes in the workplace, and realize that others are dealing with those same kinds of changes. Approximately 115 ITD employees from across the state attend the workshop, now in its 16th year. Highlights included:
