The Bottom Line

First aid, CPR/AED course offered
ITD’s Employee Safety office will offer a class in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic external defibrillator (AED) next week at the District 3 office.

The course provides American Red Cross instruction and certification. ITD employees are encouraged to check the expiration dates of their first aid certification and CPR/AED certification. The former are valid for three years; CPR/AED expires annually.

The all-day course will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 6) in the district’s large conference room. Dress is casual/comfortable.

Only 10 seats are available for the class. If interested, submit an ITD-0733 form for in-service training to Human Resource Development, attention : training.

PERSI retirement workshop rescheduled
An Oct. 7 seminar to help state employees prepare financially for retirement has been canceled, and a new workshop has been added to the fall schedule in its place, Oct. 28.

ITD employees will have the first opportunity to register for the all-day PERSI 505 session at the Holiday Inn on Vista Avenue. Registration also is possible at the location, beginning at 8 a.m. The workshop, designed for state employees who are within five years of retirement, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ITD employees who want to register in advance should contact Carlin Hill in Human Resources or Vonda Schuld at the District 3 office no later than Oct. 1. A PERSI 505 registration form also is available at www.persi.state.id.us

“If you have already sent in your registration for the Oct. 7 workshop at District 3, a PERSI representative will contact you to see if you are interested in attending on the new date,” Hill said.

Random DHR survey to be distributed
The Division of Human Resources has started evaluating the effectiveness of its Performance Management system. A team of agency human resources experts and key Department of Human Resources (DHR) staff have been working on this project.

Although there are numerous stories related to the strengths or weaknesses of the current system, there is little data to support either. The team recommended a survey be developed and used as a baseline for decision making.

The personal perspectives of our current system users – all customers, employees, supervisors and managers – are critical to the success of the survey. To gather that data, protect individuals involved and increase the credibility of the information, DHR contracted with a private firm to conduct a survey of 2,000 randomly-sampled classified state employees.

The firm will tabulate results of the survey and make them available to DHR and to leaders in each state agency. Findings will be used to improve the current system to meet Idaho’s needs.

The survey will be distributed during the week of Oct. 4. ITD employees who receive one of the random surveys are asked to complete the form and follow instructions for returning it. Anyone with questions should contact Connie Pratt at 429-5508 or via e-mail at cpratt@dhr.idaho.gov .
