Craft fair, food drive to benefit Idaho Foodbank

The annual holiday crafts fair and bake sale, sponsored by DOROLCO, is planned Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Early holiday treats will be available for purchase along with handmade crafts.

DOROLCO invites department employees to see the creative talent of their colleagues, families and friends.

Ten percent of the sales will go to the Idaho Foodbank. Donation barrels also will be set up in the Headquarters lobby where individuals can contribute nonperishable food items and personal/household items for the Foodbank. The food collection will begin Oct. 21 and continue through Nov. 17.

ITD employees who know of Treasure Valley families that need food on an emergency basis can contact the Idaho Foodbank at 336-9643.

The Idaho Foodbank is an independent, private, non-profit corporation that has distributed 45 million pounds of food to hungry Idaho families since 1984. It operates warehouses in Boise, Pocatello and Lewiston.

Last year, the Idaho Foodbank distributed nearly 4.5 million pounds of food, the most ever, to needy Idahoans and supplied food to 200 smaller agencies, such as food pantries and feeding sites throughout the state.

Agencies supplied by the Foodbank served 216,003 meals to children, an increase of 6.5 percent from 2002. It also provided food for senior citizens 137,675 times, up 4.5 percent from 2002.

Programs supported by the Idaho Foodbank include Kids Café, Community Garden, Grow a Row, Meat the Need, Empty Bowls, Delivering Hope, Chefs to the Rescue and fund-raisers such as A Chefs’ Affaire.
