Flu shot program put on hold; array of health
information available through 'Stay Healthy'

The ITD wellness council will launch a statewide information program this fall to help employees remain healthy through the winter cold and flu season. The campaign will focus on preventive measures.

Because of the vaccine shortage nationwide, ITD will not be able to offer the widespread vaccination program it has in the past. Last year the department covered the costs of 834 vaccinations. Instead, employees who are considered at high risk because of health-related factors may request a reimbursement for flu vaccinations they receive elsewhere.

Employees who want to participate in the health campaign “Stay Healthy” are invited to sign up for free information and details about local resources and activities for preventive care. Information will be distributed via e-mail and may vary by district.

Among the topics to be covered are influenza prevention, “3-A-Day for Stronger Bones” and osteoporosis prevention, “step-up” exercise motivation, and preventive health screenings. Topics and material will vary in each district.

For more information about the “Stay Healthy” program or other activities that might be available in specific districts, contact your local wellness coordinator. Employees may requested printed copies instead of e-mail messages and also may offer suggestions for activities, information or resources through their wellness coordinator.
