Board to hear report from dealers' advisory board

Grant Petersen Jr., chairman of the Dealer Advisory Board (DAB) will present its annual report to the Idaho Transportation Board next week at the Headquarters auditorium in Boise.

The DAB is composed of eight members, appointed by the governor, to assist and advise the transportation department in the administration of Idaho Code regarding the Dealer and Salesman Licensing Act.

The DAB also provides input on other motor vehicle related programs that are administered by the Division of Motor Vehicles. DAB members represent licensed new vehicle dealerships, used vehicle dealerships and recreational vehicle dealerships.

Local Rural Highway Investment Program
The board-established Local Rural Highway Investment Program allows the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) to exchange a portion of the federal STP-Rural funds for ITD highway distribution funds at an exchange rate of 61 cents of state money for $1 federal-aid money.

LHTAC Administrator Joe Haynes will report to the transportation board on the 2004 program, which involved an exchange of $3.6 million of federal funds for $2.2 million in state funds.

This program was developed to provide assistance to small cities, counties, and highway districts with improving the investment in their highway and street infrastructure. Three basic types of projects are funded through this program: construction, sign projects and transportation plans.

Idaho 55 (Eagle Road) update
The tremendous growth along the Idaho 55 (Eagle Road corridor between I-84 near Meridian to Idaho 44 at the city of Eagle has identified a number of issues that District 3 has been working to resolve.

The route is a five-lane rural highway with minimal access, rapidly developing commercial property in the corridor, the highest traffic volumes of any non-interstate highway in the state and high accident rates.

District 3 Engineer Eric Shannon will update the board on activities that have taken place to address concerns related to the high-volume corridor.
