Driver's manual available in audio format

An audio version of the Idaho Driver's Manual is available online at the Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD) Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Web site. To listen to the manual, (go to itd.idaho.gov, click “DMV Online” then click “Driver Services).”

“This new tool is a great source for valuable safe driving tips and will help provide an understanding of Idaho's basic motor vehicle laws,” said Ed Pemble, DMV Driver Services Manager.

The new format appeals to auditory learners, in contrast to those who learn better by reading, Pemble added.

The audio version of the manual is divided into 10 chapters:

  • Licensing Information
  • Traffic Laws
  • Signs, Signals, and Pavement Markings
  • The Driving Task
  • Sharing the Road
  • Adjusting to Driving Conditions
  • Freeway Driving
  • How to Protect Your Driving Privileges
  • Vehicle Equipment and Safety
  • Vehicle Title and Registration

Following along with a printed copy while listening to the audio version may be helpful for viewing important diagrams and examples, Pemble said.

Both audio and print versions of the manual can be downloaded from the Web site and can be viewed online. Print copies of the manual also are available at local county driver licensing offices.

The online audio manual is among the first of its kind in the nation, and is the latest addition to a variety of services available from the DMV site. Other online services include motor vehicle registration renewals, motor vehicle record requests and driver record requests.
