Idaho Aviation Festival returns March 10-12

More than 500 aviation enthusiasts are expected to gather in Boise for the 13th annual Idaho Aviation Festival, sponsored by the Idaho Transportation Department Division of Aeronautics. The festival will be March 10-12 at the Boise Centre on the Grove in downtown Boise.

The Idaho Aviation Festival attracts aircraft owners, pilots, mechanics and aviation business leaders, and aviation enthusiasts. The three-day event will include presentations on current events within the industry, training seminars, certification credits for mechanics and an aviation career forum for high school students.

Featured speakers will include:

Alan Klapmeier, co-founder and CEO of Cirrus Design: Klapmeier and his brother started with home-built aircraft and graduated to manufacturing innovative, high-performance personal aviation aircraft. Cirrus Design has made a name for itself among new and experienced pilots and is known for the advanced technologies it incorporates into each Cirrus aircraft.

Klapmeier serves on several industry boards, including the General Aviation Manufacturers Association Board of Directors, the Be a Pilot Board of Directors, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Air Safety Foundation Board of Visitors, and the Board of Directors of the Small Aircraft Manufacturers Association. Klapmeier will speak at a kick-off luncheon on Thursday, March 10.

Jared Aicher, pilot and founder of the Eagle Flight Project: Aicher, 33, will depart Boise on May 27 for a solo flight around the world, with hopes of becoming the youngest solo pilot to circumnavigate the globe. He plans to stop in more than 60 cities in 23 countries, including Russia, Canada, Germany and Scotland.

He will devote a portion of his trip to promoting the Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagle Program, which offers free flights to children. Aicher anticipates providing at least 400 flights to youth ages 8-17, including Native American youth in the U.S. and Canada, children coping with life-threatening illnesses and children interested in aviation.

He will speak at the Thursday luncheon and will make public appearances on Saturday, March 12. For more information on Aicher’s flight, visit www.theeagleflight.org

The public is invited to register for any event. Early registration is $89 and includes a Thursday kick-off luncheon (March 10) and a Saturday closing banquet (March 12). Tickets to the luncheon and banquet can be purchased separately.

Free workshops will be available throughout the festival. Additional seminars for anyone interested in aviation, as well as various hands-on activities designed for elementary students, will be offered on Saturday.

Exhibit and sponsorship opportunities are available. Exhibit space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sponsorship opportunities include an option of tailoring a package to fit specific needs.
