Employees to be honored for service

Nestled between reports from ITD executives and the annual report on department audits, the transportation board spotlight will shift to approximately 80 employees Friday morning (Mach 18). The employee services award ceremony, a twice-yearly celebration of employment milestones, will begin at about 10 a.m. in the Headquarters auditorium.

Board member Gary Blick (District 4) will provide brief remarks before joining Carla Anderson of Human Resource Services in presenting certificates and awards to employees who have served Idahoans through the transportation department for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

The ceremony also will acknowledge ITD employees who retired during the final half of 2004, including John Tomkinson who retired after 34 years. How far back did his employment extend? Richard M. Nixon was in the middle of his presidency, American involvement in the Vietnam War was winding down, CBS announced the cancellation of the Ed Sullivan Show and Benny Hill soared to the top of television rankings.

Joining Tomkinson as honored retirees are Robert Rainey (30 years), Moe Detmar (27 years), Carol Calovich (nine years), and Billy Lyndaker and Robert Saunders (both eight years).

The award ceremony will include presentations for Maintenance Person of the Year and Safety Person of the Year.

ITD’s role in creating an innovative, online site for commercial truck drivers also will be acknowledged during the ceremony. ITD and Access Idaho (the state’s Internet provider) were given a Digital Government Achievement Award (sixth-place nationally) last fall for development of trucking.idaho.gov ( http://trucking.idaho.gov/ )

Friends, family and colleagues are invited to join a reception in the Headquarters lobby immediately following the awards presentation.
