Highway condition updates move to twice daily

Motorists can get road condition updates twice daily by calling the Idaho Road Report, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Beginning today, the updates will be made at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This reflects a change from the winter schedule of four daily updates.

The service will switch from reporting weather-related conditions to reporting construction activities that will impact traffic beginning April 15.

The road report is organized into five menu options for road condition information: Northern Idaho, Southwestern Idaho, Eastern Idaho, Interstates and U.S. 95, and emergency highway closures.

The hotline number is 1-888-IDA-ROAD (432-7623). For access to online road condition information, visit the transportation department’s road report on the Web at itd.idaho.gov and click on “Traveler Services.”

An additional feature of the online report is an integrated data system. The system provides real-time weather information from approximately 300 sites in Idaho and the surrounding states, including 35 Road Weather Information System (RWIS) sites.

RWIS provides real-time atmospheric weather data, pavement temperature and surface conditions at those locations. The Internet site features web cam photos from 21 locations in Idaho, and additional locations in Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Links to weather forecasts, weather warnings, and radar and satellite images also are available.
