Dennis Jensen, who began as an hourly employee with ITD22 years ago, was honored recently as the department’s 2004 Maintenance Person of the Year. A native of Shoshone, Jensen is the District 4 maintenance foreman. He has been instrumental in developing ITD’s educational awareness committee, which is dedicated to providing awareness of driving and highway safety for school children. Jensen also worked with the maintenance section at Headquarters to develop a performance-based system for maintenance quality assurance. “Dennis developed a computer-based program to calculate the cost and equipment requirements for maintenance operations,” said Assistant Chief Engineer Greg Laragan. “He also has experimented with the use of snow cats for snow-drift control, which has proven to be fast and efficient in reducing the amount of snow removal required on roadway sections with drifting and blowing snow.” Laragan said the words “innovative” and “outside the box” were common attributes associated with Jensen. |
