A veteran of nearly 28 years with the department, District 2’s Gary Atchley was honored recently as ITD’s 2004 Safety Person of the Year. Atchley’s selection was based on his many contributions to the District 2 safety committee, his long service as a fork-lift training instructor and for his “excellent personal and crew safety record,” explained Greg Laragan, assistant chief engineer. He presented Atchley with a plaque on March 18 during the semiannual service awards presentation. During his long and successful career at ITD, Atchley has worked in Boise, Shoshone and Lewiston. For the past 11 years he has served as foreman of the District 2 signing and striping crews. He is responsible for seven full-time employees and two lead workers. “Gary has contributed many valuable safety suggestions for the improvement of both the district safety program and for facility safety,” Laragan said. |
