Thanks for making a difference in Idaho's transportation system

As Public Employee Recognition Week concludes, I want to take the opportunity to emphasize a common theme we’ve enjoyed this week – the investment each of you make in the transportation system, your professions and your colleagues.

When we talk about an integrated, multimodal transportation system, we usually refer to passenger vehicles, commercial carriers, public transportation, air travel and even alternative travel modes such as bicycles and pedestrians. All are part of a comprehensive “system.”

But the most essential part of the transportation system isn’t a travel mode or infrastructure. It’s each of you who combine your talents, training and abilities every day to make all of the system’s individual pieces work effectively and efficiently.

Without your contributions, our investment in the rest of the system would be counter-productive.

I appreciate all that you do for – and bring to – the Idaho Transportation Department. There isn’t a day that passes or a mile that's traveled that doesn’t speak to your dedication. It was our desire, through a number of activities this week, to remind you of how much we – the Idaho Transportation Board, the Executive Team and all Idaho travelers – truly appreciate the quality of your work and dedication.

That is why you see us introducing the slogan that has appeared in several publications recently: “Quality transportation through people who make a difference.”

Each of you is making a difference.

I hope all of you enjoyed the spotlight and the special attention this week. You truly deserve it.
