Disaster workshop planned in June

“Transportation Security Awareness,” a class designed to teach about the threat of terrorism as it relates to transportation, is just one of 14 different courses being offered by Idaho State University during a three-day domestic preparedness training June 13-15.

All courses are free and will be held at the Meridian Medical Arts Charter High School, 1789 E. Leigh Field. Preregistration is required and may be done on line at www.idahoprepares.com or www.isu.edu/idiem .

The goal of the preparedness conference is to give first responders from a variety of disciplines the opportunity to network and train together. Targeted disciplines include law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighters, hazardous materials personnel, public safety, communications, public works, and others.

Other classes include topics such as weapons of mass destruction, response to terrorist bombings, hazardous material awareness, incident command and management systems, suicide bombings and public information.

Lunch will be provided and travel mileage will be reimbursed to people attending the conference from the nine Southwest counties outside of Ada County. Additionally, lodging at a rate of $65 per night will be reimbursed to people attending from Owyhee, Valley and Washington Counties.
