Idaho's funding priorities for FY04-09

Transportation in virtually every geographic region of Idaho will benefit from a six-year transportation bill approved by Congress today and forwarded to the President for signing.

Funding in the federal bill will help Idaho’s transportation system grow to meet the needs of a burgeoning economy and rapidly increasing population while addressing public transportation and safety concerns.

The bill also includes $147 million for a number of specific projects that have been identified as Idaho priorities. Among the major projects are:

  • Widening of U.S. 95 from Worley to Mica Creek (District 1), $27.4 million
  • Improving Idaho 75 from Timmerman to Ketchum (District 4), $22.8 million
  • Construction of a new Interstate 84 interchange at Ten Mile Road between Meridian and Nampa (District 3), $19.6 million
  • Improvements to U.S. 93, the Twin Falls Alternate Route, Stages II and III (District 4), $13 million
  • Improvements to U.S. 20, the Menan-Lorenzo Interchange (District 6), $12 million
  • Improvements to U.S. 30, McCammon to Lava East (District 5), $11 million
  • Reconstruction of Grangemont Road (Idaho Forest Highway 67) from Orofino to milepost 9.3 (District 2), $9.6 million
  • Improvements to Amity Road, including widening from Chestnut Street to Robinson Road in Nampa and widening to the Kings Overpass (District 3), $8.6 million
  • Reconstruction of Idaho 55 between mileposts 94 and 102 (District 3), $5.6 million
  • Construction of Washington Street North, Twin Falls, $5.4 million
  • Transportation system improvements in Kootenai County (District 1), $5 million
  • Three Cities River Crossing in Eagle (District 3), $3 million
  • Widening of U.S. 95 from Idaho 1 to the Canada border (District 1), $2.4 million
  • Widening of U.S. 95 from Top of the Lewiston Hill to Moscow (District 2), $1.6 million

Of these projects, $10 million will come from federal funds outside of Idaho’s formula apportionments.

"The Ten Mile interchange project is critical for our community and this valley as a whole," said Meridian mayor Tammy DeWeerd.

"This project has been a great example of partnerships and how important it is to work collaboratively – the city of Meridian, the Idaho Transportation Department, COMPASS, and our Congressional delegation.

"Senator Crapo and his staff have been key to the funding of this project. We are appreciative of the efforts that have been made on behalf of this crucial project for our growing community, western Ada County and East Canyon County."

Her counterpart in Nampa, mayor Tom Dale, agreed.

“The $8.6 million dollars (for improvements to Amity Road) is great news for the city of Nampa. I am grateful for Senator Crapo’s and Craig’s efforts in getting this money, which will help begin the Amity widening process. It’s a fantastic complement to Nampa’s GO-Bond for the Kings Overpass. The expansion of Amity will help the demands of Nampa’s growth for years to come."

In addition to those priority projects, more than $5 million is included in the federal bill for as public transportation in Idaho: $3.8 for a multimodal facility in Boise and $1.5 million for public transportation statewide.
