Administrative assistants walk
'Road to Bright Horizon'

Administrative assistants from ITD’s six districts gained a clearer perspective on the transportation department and how they contribute to its success when they participated in an all-day workshop “On the Road to a Bright Horizon.” The Sept. 15 workshop was at the Nazareth Retreat Center in Boise.

Janie Stillwell, chair of this year’s workshop, and Susan Simmons, administrator of the Division of Administration, welcomed more than 150 participants.

Beve Bryant, community relations coordinator for the Better Business Bureau in Boise, opened the full schedule of presentations by discussing personal finance and scams. She talked about the content of fair credit reports, rights to access information in credit files and methods to dispute information.

She also talked about common personal finance mistakes, such as failing to pay off credit card balances monthly, cashing out 401k plans, preparing for unexpected emergencies and the dangers of not carrying life insurance.

Lynn Rhodes and Jeanne Purcell of the Division of Motor Vehicles staff discussed drivers license security and measures to prevent identity theft.

Drivers license security has far-reaching safety and security impacts, including highway safety, economics, personal/emotional and counterfeiting.

ITD has implemented strong internal fraud protection measures, such as digital images and fraudulent document recognition training.

Rhodes and Purcell also discussed the potential impacts of a national Real ID Act of 2005.

Other workshop agenda items included:

  • An update on the Headquarters and District 3 facility studies, presented by Steve Spoor
  • A luncheon address by ITD’s Chief Engineer Steve Hutchinson
  • “What are your Intentions? Responding to the Real Message, by ITD public involvement coordinator Gwen Smith
  • An insider’s look at television news by Maggie O’Mara, KTVB (Boise) morning news anchor, and
  • Ideas on “Uncovering the Undiscovered U” by Idaho Sen. Patti Ann Lodge.
