Delegates from former Soviet bloc nation
to look at DMV, highway safety operations

A small delegation from the former Soviet bloc nation of Montenegro will spend part of Friday (Oct. 7) learning how Drivers Services, law enforcement and safety programs are administered in Idaho.

The group of seven includes Larry Plott, former executive director of the POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) academy in Meridian who now works for an international organization teaching law enforcement classes.

Plott’s successor at the POST academy, Michael N. Becar, is coordinating the visit locally.
In addition to present work in Montenegro, Plott has taught in Africa, Poland and other former Soviet nations, to help the developing nations establish police training programs.

The Montenegro delegation will spend several days in Idaho, including extensive tours of the POST academy, forensics lab, Ada County Jail, the Capitol, the Boise Police Department and the Ada County records and dispatch center.

The group is expected to arrive at ITD Headquarters Friday afternoon and begin with a short welcome at the DMV conference room, followed by a tour of the division where visitors will learn about Driver Services functions and the processing of court records and license suspensions and reinstatements.

Tyler Zundel, Lynn Rhodes, Nancy Becker and Vicky Fisher will explain the DMV functions.

The guests will conclude their ITD visit with a stop at the Idaho Office of Traffic and Highway Safety.

The contingent includes Plott’s wife, Marilyn, who serves as coordinator, and Director Husnija Redzepagic; Deputy Director Tanja Tripovic; instructors Rajko Pekovic and Vesna Bultaovic, and language assistant Ljiljana Bojanic.

Their native country is about the size of Connecticut in southeastern Europe, surrounded by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Italy, Albania and Macedonia. It was one of six republics of the former Yugoslavia until breakup of the Soviet Union in 1992.
