ITD employees reach new plateaus

Fifty-two individual time capsules, representing experience and knowledge that spans a collective 845 years, were honored this week for their contributions to the transportation department and the state’s transportation system.

The Transportation Board paused during its regular business meeting Thursday to recognize individuals who have reached significant plateaus in careers devoted to building and operating the state’s greatest infrastructure.

More than half of the Idaho Transportation Board members were among those honored for achieving 10years of service. They are: Monte McClure (District 3), John McHugh (district 1), Neil Miller (District 5) and Charles Winder (chairman).

In addition to the 52 Headquarters employees who earned service awards, another eight were given fond farewells after retiring during the first half of 2005.

Two of the retirees – Jim Ross and Rex Green – closed out careers that began 34 years earlier. Their terms of service are eclipsed by three current employees – Warren Hostetler, Steven Hunt and Jesse Smith – who reached 35 years of employment and one of ITD's true patriarchs, Gene Wortham, construction, who has logged four decades of service.

Board member Neil Miller provided opening remarks at the biannual service awards presentation. He thanked the employees for their commitment and emphasized the important contributions each brings to the department.

The ceremony program put the individual efforts into perspective:

“The pages of history are filled by accounts of great individuals accomplishing great feats. Indeed, the power of one committed person is the energy and catalyst that prompts great change. But the greatest achievements are realized when the power of an individual is multiplied by cooperation – catching a common vision and riding it to completion.”
