Rake-up response

Idaho Transportation Department
My husband and I recently had the opportunity to become acquainted with a number of staff that work for the Commercial Vehicle Licensing section of the transportation department. We wanted to formally thank them and the department for the assistance they provided to us during the Rake Up Boise program.

My husband recently had open-heart surgery. We have an acre of property, about half of which is yard with a number of large trees. We knew we were going to be unable to collect all the leaves and compost them as we have in past years. I called Rake Up Boise and your group was assigned.

What a blessing they were as they went about their work, undaunted by the volume of leaves they found. They even had to make another grip to get more leaf bags, and when they completed the job, more than 35 large bags of leaves had been hauled down our lane to the leaf pick-up point.

I, myself, was a state employee for 25 years before I retired six years ago, and it made me proud to see the commitment to service displayed by this caring team of folks. Later, I was able to secure their names and they follow: Lois Wood, her husband Woody and two children; Alan Frew; Diana Hill; Shari Johnson; Jerri Hunter and Judy Trinkhaus.

Response to questions, assistance

Hal Putnam,
I am writing this letter to thank and commend the transportation department for its courteous help whenever my office calls and asks for assistance. In particular, Tyler Zundel recently went above and beyond his duties to answer one of my questions. His assistance was greatly appreciated.

As a government employee, I realize how often we are an easy target for negative comments. Therefore, I thought it important to let you know how well your staff treats the public.

Thanks again,

Life-saving efforts

Idaho Highway Safety Partners,
Let me personally thank everyone for supporting injury control traffic safety in Idaho, particularly those participating in the seat belt mobilizations and impaired driving high visibility enforcement campaigns. Each of you share a safety mission, and this past year, we have witnessed several road safety milestones including an 11.9 percent conversion rate of more Idahoans buckling up compared with just a year ago!

More and more law enforcement agencies are working extremely hard to never lose sight of the fact that enforcing traffic safety laws is not about giving out tickets; but it's about saving lives. And sustained, high-visibility enforcement is a great tool for all of us to achieve great goals for our states.

Looking at some preliminary results of your present seat belt mobilization, law enforcement are vigorously and consistently enforcing Idaho's traffic safety laws, particularly occupant protection.

I want to thank you for committing your time and resources to encounter the riskiest drivers, the chronic non-belt-use population, who also speed and drive drunk. Thank you for all you do each day to make people so much safer on Idaho's roadways and to improve the quality of life in your communities statewide.
