ITD develops map that shows Legislative districts

Pop quiz:

  1. Idaho is divided into how many Legislative districts?
  2. How many citizen legislators are there in Idaho?
  3. What is the largest district, geographically?
  4. Which four districts are smallest, geographically?
  5. Which single county represents an entire Legislative district?

* * * * *

If you have trouble answering those questions, consult the single source that contains all of the answers: the Idaho State Legislative Map produced by the transportation department.

Idaho legislators, from Eric Anderson in the far northern panhandle to JoAn E. Wood in eastern Idaho’s 35th district, can be associated with geographic regions and recognized by party affiliation on a map that recently was updated by the department and published on the Legislature’s Web site.

The map clearly identifies the state’s 35 legislative districts and lists the senators and representatives associated with each district. The map is available at www.legislature.idaho.gov/about/idmap2.pdf . Because it is in portable document format (pdf), the map can be easily downloaded and printed.

The map is shaded to designate Idaho’s two Congressional districts. A second page provides a more detailed map of Canyon and Ada counties that account for more than one-third of the state’s districts (10 through 21).

Answers for the civics exam:
  1. 35
  2. 105 (35 senators and 70 representatives, two from each district)
  3. District 35, encompassing Lemhi, Custer, Butte, Clark and Jefferson counties
  4. Districts 4, 12, 30 and 33
  5. Owyhee County, District 23
