Public meeting on Eagle Road draws about 50

About 50 citizens turned out for a public meeting Tuesday to learn about the first major improvement for the Eagle Road Improvement Project.

Beginning Thursday (March 16) northbound Eagle Road will be widened to three lanes between Interstate 84 and Franklin Road, improving traffic flow and safety on Idaho’s busiest non-interstate highway.

The project also will:

  • Construct a new dedicated right turn lane from Eagle Road to St. Luke’s Street
  • Improve safety by building a median barrier from I-84 to Franklin Road that will allow left turns only at signalized intersections, and
  • Construct curb, gutter, sidewalk and storm sewer drainage on the northbound side of Eagle Road from I-84 to Franklin Road

For travelers’ convenience, construction will take place primarily at night (between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.) The project is scheduled to be complete this summer.

Idaho Sand & Gravel of Boise is the contractor on this $1.4 million project.

The northbound Eagle Road widening is part of the Eagle Road Improvement Project, which will improve traffic flow, enhance vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle safety and visually enhance the roadway corridor on Eagle Road from I-84 to State Street (Idaho 44).

Future projects under the Eagle Road Improvement Study, including median barriers, enhanced traffic signal technology, and curb and gutter, will be scheduled for construction as funds become available.
