District 1's Munden named
Maintenance Person of the Year

Greg Munden, a 29-year veteran of the Idaho Transportation Department, was named the Maintenance Person of the Year and honored with a plaque during the semiannual employee service awards ceremony in Boise this week.

Munden began his ITD career as a surveyor in Coeur d’Alene in 1977. He has held a number of other positions after promotions throughout his career.

He became the Coeur d’Alene South and East area maintenance foreman in 2001, supervising two lead workers and eight transportation technicians in Coeur d’Alene, the Cedars and Peterson Hill near the junction of Idaho 3 and Idaho 97.

He was instrumental in introducing liquid chemicals as an anti-icing agent 15 years ago in District 1, working with former D-1 maintenance engineer Bob Ewing. Many of the storage facilities and equipment that contain chemical anti-icers can be traced to Munden.

Munden is considered an expert in the application of anti-icing chemicals by local, state and regional organizations. His expertise is often sought out by other highway and road agencies.

He represents ITD as a member of the Pacific Northwest Snow Fighters.

“Greg is a valued member of the Idaho Transportation Department, and his character and actions are instrumental in the successful completion of department goals,” said ITD Chief Engineer Steve Hutchinson in announcing the award.
