Facts about highway work zones in Idaho

• Work zone collisions in 2004: 265
• Work zone collisions in 2003: 357
• Number of people killed in work zones in 2004: 8 (all were drivers and passengers)
• Workers injured in work zone collisions in 2004: 1
• The most common type of collision: rear-enders
(Speeding, following too closely, inattentive driving, failing to yield the right of way, and improper lane changes also contribute to collisions in work zones.)
• There were 23 serious injuries in 2004, up from 21 the previous year.
• In Idaho during 2004, the estimated economic cost of work zone collisions was $35 million, which included medical treatment, emergency services, property damage, workplace costs and household productivity.
