Frew named acting adminstrator of DMV

Alan Frew, who is less than a month away from celebrating his 21st anniversary with the transportation department, will serve as acting administrator of the Division of Motor Vehicles. He assumes, on a interim basis, the position vacated by Pamela Lowe who resigned effective April 28 to join her husband at his new job location in Italy.

Frew will relinquish some of his duties as manager of Commercial Vehicle Services, a position he has held since the section was created by consolidating Ports of Entry, Over-legal Permits and Motor Carrier Services a year ago.

“I’m trying to do justice to both jobs, but I will delegate a lot of responsibilities to staff so I can devote more of my time and energies to DMV,” he said.

Frew said it could be July before a new DMV administrator is on board.

A native of Pocatello, Frew began as a Port of Entry inspector at the Sage Junction POE north of Idaho Falls in 1985. Since then he has served as a senior inspector, POE operations officer, program manager for a de-centralized POE under the Division of Highways, and beginning in 1997, as manager of a centralized POE when it was reorganized and moved to the Division of Motor Vehicles.
