If you want someone to know that you really care, you have to show it rather than say it. ITD and other state employees have an opportunity to put their care into action by participating in the annual “United We Care” charitable giving campaign that begins Monday (Oct. 2) and continues through Oct. 27. Department campaign representatives hope to organize several activities at Headquarters including the raffle of “theme baskets,” spare change jars and a Division of Motor Vehicles bake sale. Each of the six districts is encouraged to help promote the campaign by organizing their own activities. "The 2006/07 campaign provides an opportunity to give back to the communities in which we live and help our neighbors by pledging to your favorite charity," according to campaign information. Detailed information is available from the state campaign Web site: http://www.unitedwecare.idaho.gov Created in 2004 by executive order, United We Care coordinates the contributions of state employees by collecting, managing and distributing charitable gifts in a single program under the direction of a campaign leadership team. The team of state employees establish policy and govern the campaign for more than 24,000 state workers throughout Idaho. The United We Care – State Employee Charitable Giving Campaign has contracts with United Way organizations throughout the state to distribute gifts at a low administrative cost of 7 percent. The single distribution system keeps the costs of conducting a workplace campaign to a minimum. Employees can give directly to United Way, or to organizations that it supports, or to organizations listed as “unaffiliated” or to any other preferred organization through a write-in process. (See the United We Care Web site for details). “As you know, each year we conduct a charitable giving campaign – last year over $330,000 was contributed to aid worthy causes and serve those in need,” said Gov. Jim Risch in a letter encouraging state employees to participate. “Please consider a contribution to this year’s campaign. We are so fortunate, and this is a great opportunity for us to collectively make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors throughout Idaho. “Your gift will certainly brighten the day for another Idahoan, and for that, Vicki and I both express our most sincere appreciation.” Campaign teams are being organized throughout ITD and will distribute information in the days ahead. Employees are asked to carefully consider the options and give freely to their charity of choice. Several activities have been organized in the Treasure Valley to promote awareness and participation in the campaign:
