Board to consider plan for street
that could impact Headquarters campus

The Idaho Transportation Board will consider details of a plan jointly developed by the city of Boise and the Ada County Highway District during its monthly business meeting Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. in the auditorium at Headquarters.

The plan for 30th Street will include a comprehensive study of land use and multimodal transportation opportunities associated with the extension of 30th Street. The plan will be based on an economic study, traffic analysis and input from a public outreach process. A State Street Market Analysis and Development Strategy also will be completed.

The objective of this analysis is to:
  • Implement the land use/urban goals of the State Street Corridor Study
  • Facilitate real estate investment along the corridor
  • Better understand economic conditions along State Street
  • Identify catalyst sites and desired land uses to spur reinvestment
  • Identify public and private actions that will facilitate investment, and
  • Generate discussions about development opportunities along State Street

ITD has been involved in discussions about the 30th Street project because of potential impacts it may have on the Headquarters campus.

Other board discussion

Dealer Advisory Board
The annual report from the Dealer Advisory Board (DAB) will be presented to the board Wednesday. The DAB, comprised of eight members appointed by the governor, was established to assist and advise ITD in the administration of the Idaho Dealer and Salesman Licensing Act. It also provides guidance to the department on other programs related to motor vehicles that are administered by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Following are some of the issues the DAB addressed in 2006:

  • It concurred with the department’s recommendations for revocation and denial of three dealer and salesman licenses.
  • It continued efforts to define and upgrade requirements for a dealer’s principal place of business.
  • It reviewed the mileage limit for temporary supplemental lots for independent dealers.
  • It found that members of the Independent Automobile Dealer’s Association had no objections to lowering the limit to 50 miles from 175 miles from the principal place of business to set up temporary supplemental lots.

Traveler Services Advisory Council
The Idaho Traveler Services System Advisory Council, established to provide strategic-level guidance on the traveler services system, will report on accomplishments and future plans for the system. The system’s summer activities with road work reporting, restriction information handling, and incident information and tourism connections were deemed successful.

The council is committed to on-gong improvements to the system and to implement the next generation of Idaho 511 Traveler Services. Some of the enhancements that have been initiated include establishing data exchange interfaces and automated notification of events such as highway closures. Enhancements planned for the current fiscal year include additional improvements to the trucking menu, call center improvements and the addition of a mileage calculator and route summary.

Between November 2005 and October 2006, there were 328,095 calls made to the 511 telephone system. The Web site recorded 3,785,413 “hits” during the period. The most calls and site visits occurred in December 2005, with 89,638 and 846,015, respectively.

In preparation of the winter driving season, extensive media coordination was completed in November to inform the traveling public of the 511 information system. Some of those efforts included television and radio advertisements and printed material like posters, business cards and promotional “palm” cards.
