BPA offers tips on avoiding stress over debt

You can reasonably assume you are in financial trouble – or headed in that direction – if you:

• Spend more than 20 percent of your take-home pay on credit card payments
• Hide your monthly credit card statements or purchases made with credit cards from family members so they won’t be discovered
• Charge more to your credit card account each month than you make in payments
• Pay your bills on time but are forced to continue using credit because you quickly run out of cash
• Received a phone call about your delinquent account

Financial troubles are the leading causes of marital strife and take a considerable toll on mental health – both your own and that of family members. Idaho’s employee assistance provider, Business Psychology Associates, offers suggestions on coping with stress associated with financial difficulties and the strain it can create on relationships.
