ITD garners six Idaho Press Club awards

ITD received six publications awards – a first place, four seconds and an honorable mention – Saturday (May 5) at the annual Idaho Press Club banquet in Boise.

Mollie McCarty and Adam Rush earned the top award in the Media Kit competition for work to inform the news media and public about rehabilitation of Rainbow Bridge. The entry received “excellent” marks in three categories (reader interest, writing style and enterprise) and “very good” marks for originality, technicial/writing excellence, conformity to criteria and impact.

“Very well done media kit,” the judge concluded. “It answers all pertinent questions in a clear, clean, concise manner. Impacts and alternate routes listed up front and consistency of messaging throughout. I like the use of the logo to create instant public awareness of the project. Good use of single map.”

ITD also claimed second in media kit for a site developed by Mel Coulter celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Interstate highway system. It generated positive reviews for reader/viewer interest and for the “road test” that challenged readers’ knowledge of the state and national highway systems.

The 50th anniversary also received a second place for special purpose Web site design. “Interesting subject for a Web site,” wrote the judge. “For anybody who wants to know more about Idaho’s highways, this is a good place to start.”

Coulter also received a second place for a collection of three news releases, second for publication of the 2006 ITD Annual Report and an honorable mention in the feature-writing category for a Transporter story on the selection of Frank Bruneel as chairman of the Transportation Board.

The annual contest recognizes journalism excellence throughout Idaho in newspapers, television, radio, public relations and student publications.
